Friday Five 8.30.2019

I know it’s not quite the official end of summer just yet, but between the cooler nights and kids being back in school, it feels like change is in the air. BUT NOT QUITE YET!! We have one more long weekend to go to soak up all that summer.

I’ve been reading a lot, and listening to a lot of audiobooks and podcasts, but have managed to fit in some music too, so I wanted to share 5 of my recent favorite playlists in today’s Friday Five. These are all available on Spotify, so feel free to click through and hit follow.

Missy Elliot surprised us with an album release just a week ago, and while that album is really enjoyable, you know what’s even better? Her entire anthology!

I’ve been bingeing on The Bold Type (on Freeform and Hulu), the story of 3 young women who work at a magazine (modeled after Cosmopolitan) and navigate love, life and their career in their mid 20s. It’s very enjoyable and also very current, and happens to have a really solid soundtrack.

I’m also watching Four Weddings & a Funeral on Hulu, mainly because Mindy Kaling created it. I wish I could say I’m super into it, but I’m not. I’m invested enough to not stop watching, but it’s ok - an escape when you need something light. That said, I’m a big fan of the soundtrack!! Some really good remakes of songs from the original movie, including a Hindi/English remake of Ain’t No Sunshine and a lot of feel-good pop.

I’m still going strong with my meditation practice, and on those days that I’m focusing on a mantra, I like to have some music in the background to help me gauge time. I usually meditate to a few songs from Yoga Girl’s monthly album - she has really good taste in yoga/meditation appropriate music.

And last, but certainly not least, I’m not embarrassed to admit I’m a big fan of Taylor Swift’s music - it’s catchy and she puts on a great show. No regrets. And while I prioritized Missy Elliot over her new album, I enjoy hers just the same.

Happy Listening!!

In this segment I highlight some fun events happening in Cleveland over the next several weeks.

August 30th: Believe in CLE Yoga 2019. I missed this the past couple of years but this event is the largest gathering of yogis in Cleveland. If you want to feel some really great vibes, sign up for this free event.

August 30th: Night Market Cleveland. This festival is always a blast, and features so much good food!

September 6th: MIX at Cleveland Museum of Art. I love the monthly MIX events at CMA - excellent people watching, an excellent dose of art and culture, and drinks!

September 9th: Taste of the Browns. Enjoy delicious food and mingle with the Cleveland Browns players while benefiting the Greater Cleveland Food Bank. This is a ticketed event, and tickets are available here.

September 14th: 10th Annual India Festival USA. I am so excited for this event, which is largest Indian cultural festival in Ohio!

September 14th: Rocky River Fall Arts Festival This is always a great shopping festival with a group of fabulous vendors as well as the stores on Old Detroit Road.

September 14th- 15th: Chalk Festival 2019. This family friendly event mixes professional artists with ordinary people and you can even create your very own chalk art!

September 20th: F*Show XI If you’re in the market for contemporary furniture or what to source some great talent, this is the furniture show for you. I’ve been to this event several times in it’s history and the work is truly beautiful.

September 25th: Women’s Leadership Conference of Northeast Ohio I attended this event last year and it was an inspiring, educational day! This year’s event has an impressive, diverse set of speakers - if you have the time, I highly recommend attending.

September 27th: Night Market is back! This festival is always a blast, and features so much good food!

September 28th: Tremont Arts & Cultural Festival. It’s been several years since I’ve been to this event, mainly because there are so many competing arts festivals that feature similar artists. But I remember this having a really solid lineup of artists and vendors, so I’m going to try and check it out this year. If you’re not familiar with Tremont, this is a must-do, and then hang out after and walk around to check out some of the neighborhood restaurants and bars.

September 29th: Ohio City Street Festival This is another fun neighborhood festival featuring neighborhood restaurants, games for kids, ice-cream, and general end of summer fun!

I will update this list each week in the summer. ENJOY!
