Friday Five 1.16.19

Hello and welcome! Today I’m kicking off a new series that highlights the best things I read, ate, cooked, bought, or generally consumed in any way this week. And this week was a good one.

Things I Read:

Mumbai, a City Both Uplifting and Heartbreaking

My favorite lines from this piece: Mumbai (sometimes called by its former name, Bombay) is an electric and complicated city, an extraordinary place, both uplifting and heartbreaking. Its eclectic composition of different groups and cultures makes it a difficult city to define, but for many, it’s a city that represents possibility.

As you know, I spent my entire childhood in Bombay - there was a time where I couldn’t have imagined living anywhere else. Incidentally, I wrote my own Mumbai Travel Guide, click through to check it out.

The Good Trade published a piece titled What is a Capsule Wardrobe? Obviously, this is a topic that is of great interest to me, and although this particular piece focuses on clothing, the same principles apply to jewelry too. If capsules are appealing as a concept, check out our blog post on capsule jewelry and shop our store for Capsule ONE

Things I Listened To:

Broken Harts: This podcast tells the heartbreaking story of a family of 8 and their surprising death. Markis, Hannah, Devonte, Abigail, Jeremiah, and Sierra Hart—six beautiful black children, ranging in age from 12 to 19—were all adopted by Sarah and Jennifer Hart, both white. And while everything looked wonderful and perfect on social media, the family’s GMC Yukon was found on the rocks below California’s Highway - a murder-suicide. This podcast tries to piece together the story of what really happened.

Best Thing I Cooked:

This onion elixir is AMAZING!! It is so easy to make and adds so much flavor to absolutely everything. Elevate your salads, your chicken, your hummus - absolutely whatever you’re eating. And the best part is you can eat these on any diet that you’re on (unless you’re not eating onions, in which case just skip over this).

Best Purchase:

I have a headphone obsession. But I’m also not willing to invest serious $ in a Bose set. I own in-ear headphones (a few pairs for the gym, for bedtime) and wanted a pair of wireless over ear headphones with a microphone to wear at work, and these headphones are great! Even when I’m not listening to music or a podcast, the noise cancelling makes things so much quieter.

What did you consume this week that you recommend? Drop me a comment and share!
