Friday Five 7.12.2019

Since I’m home so much these days, I find myself listening to a number of podcasts and in today’s Friday Five I’m sharing 5 new(ish) to me podcasts I’ve discovered or been recommended lately.

  1. The Maris Review: This is a new podcast about books, and as someone who is always looking for new books to read, this one is right up my alley.

  2. The Daily: I’ve talked about this podcast before, and this is such a great way to stay informed about what is happening in the world in under 30 minutes of listening! Each day, Michael Barbaro dives deep into one topic with an expert, and then brings you up to date on the news you need to know each day.

  3. So Money with Farnoosh Torabi: I used to listen to this a long time ago, and then got overwhelmed with the volume of new episodes. Since then, I’ve reconciled myself with the fact that I DO NOT HAVE TO LISTEN TO EVERY SINGLE EPISODE OF A PODCAST, and just started listening to this again on the recommendation of my friend Reena of Facteur PR.

  4. ScamWow podcast: I don’t know what is says about me but I am SO fascinated my scams. This podcast explores scams of all kinds and I am here for all of it.

  5. Press Send with Chinae Alexander: Host Chinae Alexander invites a guest to her show each week and together they solve listener’s everyday problems. From dating, careers, marriage, family dynamics, making new friends, friend breakups and everything in between, each topic is handled with candor and humor!

Happy Listening!! If you have any podcast recommendations, I hope you will share them in the comments!

Every weekend this summer: The Terminal Tower Observation Deck is open! Take in some amazing views and take self-guided tour of this historical building. Advance tickets required.

July 11th-14th: Cleveland Tall Ships. Nick and I went to this the last time it happened and it was so much fun! This is a super fun event for families.

July 13th: Tequila Fest. Live music, taco eating contests, and world class tequila. I can’t think of better reasons to attend this event.

July 13th: Sunflower Wine Festival This annual event raises money to fight cancer in children and this event is a sell-out event each year.

July 13th-14th: The Cleveland Flea Shop local, eat local, and experience local at the famous Cleveland Flea.

July 14th: Si Jolie! French Fashion in Cleveland. This is the opening night for this exhibit at the Cleveland History Center that highlights how Paris fashion motivated Clevelanders to travel abroad, influenced local fashion, inspired the golden age of department stores, and how significant fashion was socially. Celebrate Bastille Day with the Cleveland History Center!

July 14th: Yoga + Beer at Platform Beer My friend Alicia is an amazing yoga instructor (see her event in June) and she’s hosting a series of yoga events to benefit The Arthritis Foundation of Ohio. Each event includes a 60 minute yoga class and a free beer. Cheers!

July 21st: Taste of Tremont Experience Tremont’s finest restaurants in a super casual setting. Quick tip - do not drive to this event. Parking is the WORST! Just ride a bike or take an Uber/Lyft

July 26th: Night Market Cleveland. This is such a FUN, diverse event in Asia Town, with delicious food. GO early to avoid lines.

July 26th-27th: The Summer Market in Avon Lake. I’ve never been to this market before but a number of my favorite local vendors participate in this event so I’m very interested to go check it out.

July 27th: CPL150 Street Festival! I’m a huge patron of the Cleveland Public Library, which is one of the top 2 libraries in the country (the other is the New York Public Library). This year the Cleveland Public Library celebrates 150 years with a huge celebration at it’s downtown branch. A must see if you love books, arts, puppets and everything in between.

August 2nd: MIX at Cleveland Museum of Art. It’s been a few months since I’ve been to MIX but this monthly event is always so much fun. Listen to music, look at some amazing global art, have a few cocktails, and see some of the coolest people in Cleveland just hanging out! Excellent people watching at this event.

August 3rd: Lakewood Arts Festival This is one of my favorite annual summer arts festivals

I will update this list each week in the summer. ENJOY!
