Looking Ahead to May

In a few short weeks…

As you start planning your Cleveland summer I have two great fundraiser events to share that I think might interest you.

I love any reason to dress up, which is why I love the pageantry of the Derby (even though I don’t care for the event itself). Look, I just love a reason to wear a crazy, over-the-top hat. Hats are going to be my accessory of the summer (thank you polymorphous light eruption) so the Derby sounds like an amazing way to kick off my hat wearing days.

This year my friends Rachel and Paul are hosting a Kentucky Derby themed brunch to raise funds for The Pediatric Hydrocephalus Foundation. Hydrocephalus is an incurable brain condition that affects 1 in 1000 births, making it as common as down syndrome. The Pediatric Hydrocephalus Foundation (PHF) is committed to funding research toward a cure, raising $112,000 in 2018 alone. The organization aims to raise even more in 2019.

Tickets for the first annual Kentucky Derby brunch are $70 and include a breakfast buffet and 2 mimosas, and prizes for the best dressed and best hat! The event is on Sunday May 5th at 11:30 am at The Westin Downtown Cleveland.

More information and tickets to The Cleveland Derby Brunch available here.

My sweet rescue babies!!!

My sweet rescue babies!!!

If you’re new here you should know that I LOVE animals, especially my three rescue pups Clair, Reggie, and Webster. I got involved with the animal rescue community in Cleveland back in 2010 when I started volunteering for Secondhand Mutts. It was there that I learned just how much work and money goes into animal rescue, particularly when these rescues take on injured or sick dogs that can have huge vet bills as part of their care. On average, it takes $150 to take care of the basic medical needs (spay/neuter, shots, etc), food and housing for a healthy dog, and adoption fees almost never cover all the costs. Which is where donations and fundraisers come in.

Friends of the Cleveland Kennel (F.O.C.K.) is a non-profit that funds the care of the animals at Cleveland Animal Care & Control and the City Dogs adoption and foster programs. F.O.C.K. also supports the innovative pet retention program, Neighborhood Pets Cleveland, which provides low-income Cleveland pet owners with affordable and accessible pet care and free spay/neuter services.. Art Fur Animals is their marquee annual fundraiser, where 125+ local and national artists create unique animal-themed art that is available via auction. Over the years, this event alone has raised over $500,000 toward animal rescue, and honestly, the art is so cool and fun, and you can preview some of it on the Art Fur Animals Facebook page.
