Tremont Art Walk

Planning for the Weekend: Fabulous Friday

Do you live for the weekends? I certainly do, and sometimes, with the amount of stuff happening in Cleveland, its a little difficult to get it all in. Take this weekend for instance- on Friday (9/9) alone there are not one, not two, but THREE events that I really want to attend. Unfortunately, I can't be three places at once, but as it turns out, I will certainly be attending two of the three events.

So, the first event is one that happens the first Friday of every month- The Tremont ArtWalk. If you STILL haven't been, you really really should consider attending- art galleries and boutiques open late, yummy cocktails on the fabulous patios, not to mention the absolutely delicious food at any one of the restaurants on Professor Ave. If you end up visiting, I highly recommend a stop at Banyan Tree. At this month's ArtWalk, Banyan Tree will have a very special visitor- The Canton Box Company. I've picked up their creations before, and they may make excellent gifts for weddings, bridal showers, or even housewarming presents!

Unfortunately, I will miss the ArtWalk this month though, because instead, I will be attending F*SHO 2011! I missed it last year, and based on reviews from those who attended, I missed an amazing opportunity to see the work of some incredibly talented Clevelanders. I don't usually make the same mistake twice, so I won't miss it this year. Besides, I'm still in the market for dresser and some sort of linen closet (I'm leaning towards a chest, but I'm open to ideas) and I'm hoping I find some stuff at F*SHO.

That said, this Friday I'm MOST excited about the Dredgers Union End of Summer ROAR ALONG the SHORE!! $28 gets you a 2-2.5 hour tour on The Goodtime III, libations, live music by not one, not two, but eight (EIGHT!!) bands, and of course, time well spent with some fabulous Clevelanders!! Seriously, if you haven't seen the view of our city from the lake by nightfall, you are definitely missing out. Besides, if you're on foursquare, and haven't gotten your "I'm on a Boat" badge, this is a great opportunity to take care of that!! And finally, one more reason to go this party- if you take your ticket into Dredgers Union on Friday September 9th, you get 25% off all men's and women's denim!!! Tickets are available at Dredgers Union, Room Service, and online!!

Well Cleveland, if you STILL don't have plans for Friday, you should be ashamed of yourself ; ). Just kidding!! But seriously, I hope you will take advantage of the last few days of summer and enjoy our city this weekend!! Maybe I will see you around!

Planning for the weekend

So, I know its only Tuesday, but its never too early to start planning for the weekend. This is going to be another really busy weekend in Cleveland!! I know there's going to be things that I'm missing, but here's what I'm going to be doing this weekend:

Friday night is yet another installment of Tremont's monthly Art Walk. I've talked about this before, but if you're looking for some truly unique pieces of jewelry or accessories, or home furnishings, you should really spend the evening in Tremont. The abundance of boutiques and restaurants and bars makes for a really fun night, I promise.

Saturday morning, Jessi and I are participating in the Race for the Cure. We were supposed to run it, but ahem, we forgot to train, so I'm not sure if we're going to walk or run. I haven't run since May, but its only 5k, and I'm half tempted to just wing it. Its going to be a game-time decision, so I'll let you know what I end up doing.

Saturday is also the 2010 Sparx City Hop. I've never participated in the City Hop before, but I plan to change that this year. I really want to go to Asia Town and maybe even do some day drinking in Ohio City.

Sunday also brings the Berea Arts Fest to town, but I will miss that event, because Sunday is also the first day of Browns football. Obviously, I will be cheering on #73 Joe Thomas as I always do. GO BROWNS!!! And that's all I'm going to say about that.

Shopping semi-local: The Canton Box Company

Friday was the Tremont Art Walk, and N and I made our customary stop at Banyan Tree, who had a very special visitor, The Canton Box Company. CBC is based in Canton, Ohio, and sells home furnishings including some really fun artwork. They also offer a certain degree of customization, which is always a plus!! I've been on the hunt for some fun pieces for above our bed, and found this beauty:

$30 at Banyan Tree; $23+ shipping on

I also picked up another print (which was exclusively available at Banyan Tree, but will be available soon on etsy), with the following Dr. Seuss Quote, that I absolutely lllllllluuuuuuuuuuuurrrrrrrrve:

"You know you're in love with when you can't fall asleep because reality is finally better than your dreams"

I can't wait for N to put these up!!!!

So, last night N and I took JV on her first ever ArtWalk. Somehow, we managed to pack a lot into one night! We started out with pizza and beer at Edison's (which is also one of our favorite Tremont dog-friendly places), followed by a visit to Cleveland Auction Company, where JV found this fabulous vintage beauty:

N then decided to stop by Flying Monkey for a drink, while JV and I continued on our tour of the stores on Starkweather. First stop, Lilly's for some sweet treats. I love this store. Its so pink and yummy smelling!!!! We did a tasting of the ninja bark (white chocolate, wasabi peas, Hawaiian black lava sea salt) paired with a cucumer-prosecco cocktail. Sounds a little wierd, but OMG it was sooooo good. It was salty, sweet, spicy, creamy all at once! I ended up getting some pistachio almond bark too, which goes really really well with whisky. Even N (who doesn't like sweets) approved!

This was followed by a quick stop at Geode, and Wine and Design. JV and I then took a little break to join N at Flying Monkey for some cocktails. We saved my favorite store for last: Banyan Tree. I LOVE THIS STORE! Look at the super fun stuff I found!!!

3 bangles, and a great magnetic board and hooks that I'm going to use to hang my necklaces in our new closet. And, my favorite piece of the night; a magnetic map that we're going to use to plan future vacations!!

After a quick stop at bistro on lincoln park for reverse happy hour, we ended the night at Hotz with AJP and @butnoteveryday. Good times were had by all!

Tremont Art Walk

Starting at 6 pm tonight, Tremont will be filled with artsy people, people who love artsy people, and people who just love art. Why, you ask? Its Tremont Art Walk night! If you live in Cleveland, and you've never been, you should really consider going. It really is a lot of fun; my game plan usually involves stopping in at a few stores/galleries, followed by drinks either at Flying Monkey or The Treehouse followed by reverse happy hour at Lolita.

Stores I lurve to visit: Banyan Tree (my favorite store in Cleveland!), Cleveland Auction Company (my favorite new discovery that is the authorized reseller for Alessi! LOVE!) Geode Gallery, and for something sweet and delightfully sinful, either Lilly Handmade Chocolates (I love the bark!), or A Cookie and a Cupcake.

If you can't make it out tonight, don't worry: The Tremont Art Walk is held the second Friday of every month.
