Bullets Over Broadway

Did you know that Playhouse Square is the country's largest performing arts district outside of New York? Its pretty incredible if you think about it. Not only that, each year, Playhouse Square brings a season of the newest and hottest Broadway Shows right here to Cleveland as part of its KeyBank Broadway Series.  This season includes critically acclaimed If/Then, Phantom of the Opera, and Matilda, just to name a few.

My first theatrical show (that I remember) was Miss Saigon, and while the topic was heavy, I remember absolutely LOVING it! I remember being in awe of the sets, and that show absolutely cemented my love for musicals. So when I was invited to Playhouse Square's KeyBank Broadway Series media night for its newest musical, Bullets Over Broadway, naturally, I said YES!!!

And boy was I glad I did. This show!!!! The sets were so realistic, the costumes were absolutely gorgeous, the choreography was so fun, and the story had everyone laughing.

If you're not familiar with the story, Bullets Over Broadway is the story of a struggling playwright and director, who finally gets his big Broadway break, on one condition: He must include his financier's girlfriend (who is an awful actress) in the play. It also just so happens that the financier is a gagster. I won't tell you what happens next, or how the story unfolds, but lets just say that it has all the making for a fun evening: late 1920s costumes, energetic choreography, mobsters, and divas!

The show runs just about 3 hours, including an intermission. The show is being presented at Connor Palace in Playhouse Square through October 18th, and tickets run $10-$100. Additional details available here

Nick and I made an evening of it, starting with dinner and Cowell & Hubbard. We were home and in bed by 11 pm, so all in all, it was a really great way to spend a weeknight date-night!

Disclosure: I was provided with two tickets to Bullets Over Broadway in exchange for sharing my experience/opinion on the show on social media. I was not required to write a blog post about the show, but it was SO MUCH FUN, that I absolutely had to share! As always, all opinions are 100% my own.
