Friday Five 1.24.2020: The Magazine Edition

One of my favorite weekend habits is curling up on the couch with a fresh cup of coffee and a paper magazine. Could I read these online? Sure. But there’s something about not being on an electronic device and getting really absorbed in real pages that feels very relaxing.

So in today’s Friday Five I’m sharing the five magazine I still subscribe to (at one point I had 12, RIP Lucky Magazine)

  1. InStyle Magazine: I’ve been a subscriber to InStyle for YEARS! It used to be the most expensive magazine subscription, but media being what it is these days, this has come back in line with other magazines. The fashion coverage is still on point.

  2. Real Simple: I always thought of this an an older person’s magazine, until I realized that I’m the “older person” and as a home owner and functioning adult, this magazine has really great tips on home and also great recipes. Expert thrifter and fellow blogger Dina does a really fun thrifting challenge where she recreates Real Simple looks using only thrifted purchases - so if you’re trying to get into thrifting, you should follow along with her challenges.

  3. Health Magazine: To be honest, I subscribed to this because it was practically free. This is my least favorite of all the magazines I subscribe to, in no small part because of the diet products in the ads. Also the paper quality is pretty terrible. I will hit unsubscribe when it’s up for renewal

  4. Conde Nast Traveler: AHHHHHHH I LOVE THIS MAGAZINE. Look, most of the hotels and resorts are completely out of my budget but I’m a sucker for some travel fantasy and this definitely fulfills that desire.

  5. Travel + Leisure: This is less formal and serious than CN Traveler, and has a few more realistic options for travel places and ideas, and also has more travel adjacent content that I enjoy very much. I love this one equally but as you can see, for different reasons. I’ve gifted T+L subscriptions to travel-minded friends in the past. It’s always a fun surprise.

So where do I subscribe to these? I use Amazon’s magazine subscriptions because I don’t have to remember extra passwords and it’s really to easy to manage all your subscriptions in one place.

Do you still read paper magazines? What are you subscribed to?
