Friday Five 3.20.2020: The At-Home Yoga Edition

Since I’m home bound (like most of you), and loathe running, my workouts these days consist of walking, and yoga. Last summer I tried out a few competing yoga apps and ended up picking Alo Yoga’s Alo Moves online yoga program mainly because they offer really great technical instruction from beginner to advanced. I’ve injured myself several times doing yoga, and learned that I need ongoing instruction and adjustments to keep myself injury-free.

And during my at-home yoga practice, I’ve found there are a few benefits to yoga at home…

  1. Not having to see the one person who is super f***ing extra and doing their own damn thing, being completely distracting. Like dude, why are you even here?!?!?!

  2. Not having someone else’s sweat flying at you during hot yoga

  3. Not having to listen to someone else’s weird moaning

  4. If you get tired you can lay down and take a nap and literally no one else will know

  5. You can stay in savasana as long as you like after.

That said, I do miss the community, the studio heat and the in-person adjustments of a yoga class, and I can’t wait to enthusiastically return.

If you’re looking to start an at-home yoga practice, I highly recommend Alo Moves - they offer a free 30-day trial so you can test it out with no risk. That said, most local studios are offering free or donation-only online classes. If you’ve been intimidated to try one, this is a great low-risk way to try out your local studio and instructors before you commit to going in person. My local favorites in Cleveland are Inner Bliss, Yoga Strong, and Groove Ryde - go check them out!!
