Taking a trip to the Otherworld

This past weekend, Nick and I took a day trip to the Otherworld Immersive art experience in Columbus. It’s only a two-ish hour drive from Cleveland, so absolutely doable as a day trip. Now in non-COVID circumstances, we wouldn’t have thought twice about this excursion, but things being what they are, we decided we didn’t want to stay overnight. We bought our tickets online for a timed entry, stopped at The Pearl for lunch, and made our way over to the exhibition.

I was a little apprehensive when we pulled up to the spot - it’s basically an abandoned big-box strip mall, and it feels a little bit like walking into a Halloween City, but don’t be alarmed. The inside is absolutely worth it (scroll for pictures).

You wait in line outside (with 6 feet between each family unit), and they take your temperature as you enter. Masks are unfortunately not mandated, but we had ours on the whole time. There are several hand-sanitizing stations, which is necessary given how interactive the exhibit is (although you don’t have to touch anything if you don’t want to). While in the space, there were a decent number of people, but I wasn’t within 6 feet of anyone else at any time, except for the time I turned a corner and nearly ran into someone. That aside, everyone was really good about keeping distance, although only about half the visitors were in masks, which was quite disappointing.

All that said, if you’re willing to wear a mask (maybe even gloves) and are willing to sanitize your hands a LOT, it’s a really good COVID excursion, especially if you have kids who are bored out of their mind.

Now, it’s time for pictures.
