Friday Five 1.15.2021: 5 Shows I've been Streaming lately

Despite our best wishes, 2021 has already been a rough year. I’ve been escaping into mindless TV, and if you need a distraction, here are 5 shows I’ve been streaming lately:

  1. Ted Lasso on Apple TV: Ted Lasso is an American football coach, who gets hired to coach a premier league soccer team in England. Except, he doesn’t know a whole lot about soccer. This is such a sweet and heartwarming story, and Ted has such a sunny disposition - it’s the perfect balm for these crazy times.

  2. Flight Attendant on HBO Max: A flirty, glamorous flight attendant has a magical night with one of her passengers and wakes up to find him in a pool of blood. Who is he? Who killed him? And why?

  3. Bridgerton on Netflix: Swoony period piece romance - this show is what happens if Gossip Girl and Downtown Abbey have a baby. The cast, sets, and costumes are all eye candy. Enjoy it for what it is.

  4. Eater’s Guide to the World: This show on Hulu is a tribute to restaurants across the world, but unlike most food shows, this one is not narrated by a chef, so it doesn’t feel insidery. Also, it will make you intensely miss restaurants and travel so consume at your own risk.

  5. History of Swear Words on Netflix: Hosted by Nicholas Cage, this is a show about the history of swear words with commentary by comedians and linguists, and historians. It’s slightly absurd, and a great background show while you inevitably scroll your phone.

What are you watching these days?
