History podcasts that are interesting and fun!

I think we have safely established that I’m a nerd. I love Star Wars, economics, books and science. But what you may not know is that I also enjoy history, but not World War I or World War II history. Lately my podcast listening has included some really interesting history series, so I thought I would share them with you.

Noble Blood: This was the first history podcast I ever listened to, and it got me hooked. This podcast explores historical royals from across the world. They’re in the middle of a series on Henry VIII and his very dramatic love life, but also spending a good amount of each episode talking about the women themselves. In a recent episode, I also learned the fascinating history of Catherine the Great, and now I’m excited to watch her story The Great on Hulu!

You’re Dead To Me: This podcast has an interesting format that includes the host, a historian and usually a comedian or other personality and it takes on a bit of a quiz show format at the end so you can recall the important points of the episode. The show is currently on hiatus due to the pandemic, but there are plenty of episodes to catch up on. I’m a big fan of the episode on the Mughal Empire (for obvious reasons - I learned a lot of this in school) and the episode on the history of chocolate taught me some interesting new facts too.

Homeschool History: This is You’re Dead To Me’s pandemic replacement and is equally interesting but must shorter at just about 15 minutes per episode. Billed as history for the whole family, this one features fun facts and cheesy jokes. I don’t have kids so I have no idea how interesting this would be for them, but if you do listen with your kids, I’d love to hear their review!

I’ll keep updating this as I discover new history podcasts, but if you have some you love, let me know!

I would very much like to stop wearing jackets while I go on walks and listen to podcasts. It’s May FFS!!!!
