Friday Five 5.29.2020: Five Things I'm Looking Forward to in June

The last time I did one of these “Things I’m looking forward to…” posts was back on February 28th. Little did I know what was about to happen just a few weeks later, and I only got to one of those things on my list before everything was shut down indefinitely.

Ohio has opened up considerably since then, but to be honest, I’m not returning to my pre-COVID behavior - I just don’t feel comfortable being around large groups of people I don’t know. I’m comfortable doing small, socially distanced gatherings with good friends who have the same philosophy on pandemic interactions, but other than that, I’m cautious.

While I’m not going to fabulous parties or big events this June, there are things I’m really looking forward to this month.

  1. Our public library opens back up for drive through and pick ups!! YAY!!! I was strategic (lucky) enough to have a LOT of books come in right before Ohio shut down, and of course, I read ebooks, but I’ve been through nearly all the real paper books and I’m so ready to get some new ones via drive through!! I’m also excited to see some action on my very long hold pile.

  2. I was inspired by my friend Nadine, who recently completed a 30-day yoga challenge, to do my own in June! I asked her for some tips to make sure I don’t fall off the wagon, and she suggested I think of it as a non-negotiable. It’s just something I HAVE to do. She also recommended I build in restorative yoga for days that I’m really tired. I will be using the Alo Moves and Peloton apps to do this.

  3. If you’ve been following my stories, you may have noticed progress on my lettuce plants. I think the lettuce will finally be tall enough to harvest in June and it’s going to be the best salad I’ve ever eaten.

  4. We’ve lived in our house for 10 years, and for the entire time, our office has kinda been a junk room. I was supposed to start working on it when I was laid off last summer, but I just didn’t feel like it. Well, nothing like a pandemic to make you want to improve your home. I’ve been working on this for a few weeks now (it was painted a few years ago), and I have just a few decorative pieces to go and then I will be done. It’s got lots of colorful accents and I’m excited to finally have it be a functioning space. It’s also where I will be doing my daily yoga for my challenge!

  5. My other goal for June is to try making a new cocktail every week. I tend to get lazy and just open a bottle of wine, but cocktails are so fun. I have all sorts of herbs ready to go as garnish from my own backyard, and I’m excited to use them in some of these cocktails!

What are you looking forward this month?
