5 Fashion Trends to Keep an Eye on This Fall

Fall 2020 is almost upon us. And while a number of us will continue working from home, some of us may be ready to go back into the office, or at the very least, participate in socially-distant micro-gatherings.

If you’re ready to get dressed up again, here are some trends to keep an eye on!

Fall 2020 fashion trends

Leather on Leather: Leather for fall isn’t really revolutionary, but this year, expect to take it a step further and see leather skirts paired with leather jackets, leather pants with leather jackets - you get the idea.

Statement Outerwear: As the temperatures drop, it’s a great time to play with outwear. And while a classic black peacoat (or let’s face it, down puffer on the North Coast) is always appropriate/necessary, try something bolder for those days when you’re not going to be walking around too much. I love faux fur jackets for fall, and I’ve rented them several times over the past two winters.

Big fan of the statement outwear, which I much prefer to rent than buy. With Cleveland winters, my big puffy parka is my usual go-to anyway!

Menswear Inspiration: I love the idea of the menswear for women trend, but I have to be honest that I’ve never really tried this. Sure I had a phase where I was wearing suits for work, but that was a long time ago. This fall, think gorgeous matching velvet or brocade suits.

Mock necklines: Don’t think 90s turtlenecks, instead think of high necklines that don’t fold over. Full disclosure, I will not be following this trend. I don’t like turtlenecks or generally anything high up on my neck, so I’m going to skip this.

Neutral bags: Winter usually means black, but the trend experts say that this winter is going to be all about the browns - think caramel and cognac and whiskey. This is a trend I will probably end up buying (or shopping my own closet) since it’s so classic and timeless. If you’re in the market for a great leather neutral bag, I’m a big fan of Madewell, Glad and Young, and locally, Fount and Ellie Jane Bags.

I’ve mentioned this before - I was recently selected as an Ambassador for Rent The Runway. If none of these trends are ones you want to really invest in, you can try them out with no long term commitment by renting them!

There are 3 different monthly programs available via Rent The Runway. You can use my Ambassador code, RTRFAM511C780 to get $100 off 2 months of Rent The Runway’s 2- Swap program - that’s $50 off each month for 2 months, which brings your monthly cost to $85 (plus tax). These offers change periodically, so this is current as of this writing. Please note that the Unlimited Swaps plan does not offer any discounts, nor is it expected to do so any time in the future. Click HERE to subscribe.

My Ambassador role is not a paid sponsorship, but if you use my code, I will receive some additional rental spots. I’ve been a paying subscriber to Rent The Runway since October 2018, and continue to pay for my monthly subscription!
