Everything I read in February

Compared to last year, my reading pace has slowed way down. It’s not necessarily a bad thing, but my days of 10+ books in a month aren’t happening for a while.

Regardless, there are some good books in my February reads - enjoy!

A Vow so Bold & Deadly: Brigid Kemmerer

This is the final book in the Cursebreaker series - Book 1 started as a modern retelling of Beauty and the Beast where a young woman in Baltimore is whisked to a parallel world with the hope that she falls in love with the prince and frees him from his curse.

I can’t say much about what happens in this book but it’s a very satisfying conclusion.

Overall grade: A-

The Project: Courtney Summers

If you like stories about cults, this is the book for you. Lo and Bea are sisters who were orphaned when a car accident tragically killed their parents and Lo suffered life-threatening injuries. Years later, Lo and Bea and estranged because Bea joined a cult.

When Lo has a chance encounter with another member of the same cult who commits suicide, she begins to investigate the cult, its charismatic founder, and her sister.

Overall grade: A+

White Ivy: Susie Yang

White Ivy is the story of Ivy, a first generation Chinese American who is generally an underachiever. Ivy wants nothing more than to fit in and be one of the popular kids.

Now an adult, Ivy has a chance encounter with Sylvia, sister of Gideon Speyer, her childhood crush. Can Ivy have the life she’s always dreamed or will her past catch up with her?

I loved this book because I love stories of social climbers with checkered pasts, but if you don’t like reading books with generally unlikeable leads, this is not the book for you. If you’re ok with the grey areas of people and their motivations, 100% recommend.

Overall grade: A+

A Court of Silver Flames: Sarah J. Maas

Sarah J. Mass builds incredible mystical faerie universes and tells stories of strong female leads that find themselves in extraordinary circumstances and rise to the occasion.

Since this is Book 5 in a series, I can’t tell you a whole lot about what happens, but the first book, A Court of Thorns and Roses is a modern day retelling of Beauty and the Beast where a young human finds herself in the palace of Faeries who have been cursed.

Note that this is a VERY different retelling than the Cursebreaker series and both take very different paths.

Overall grade: A+

I’m completely incapable of being objective when it comes to Sarah J. Maas’s books.
