Friday Five 7.10.20: The Candle Post

I light a scented candle every morning when I start off my day with a morning yoga practice, and then have it burning the whole work day. All this means I go through a candle about every 7-10 days. I’ve had so much fun trying new candle brands so today I’m sharing 5 that I’ve bought over quarantine, and some I’m excited to try.

  1. Marie Hunter Beauty: This is a beauty and fragrance company that also sells candles. I have the Magnolia Blossom and Tuberose scents and they are divine. They throw off a LOT of scent too - Nick walked into my office the other day and said “smells fancy in here”, which is really the highest endorsement because he doesn’t usually like my candles. Marie Hunter Beauty is a Black-owned business, so if you’re intentionally diversifying your spending, this is a great spot to start!!

  2. 1820 House: I’ve been a long time fan of this woman-owned candle company, and I was excited to restock their scents. I’m currently loving their Field Grass and Neroli & Blond Woods scents.

  3. Bijou Candles: This Brooklyn candle brand is owned by two women who are partners in business, live, and luxury candle love! I especially love their tall votive candles, and I especially like the Stevie scent, although they launched a new line that I can’t wait to try! Also, having had first hand experience with their customer service, I can say it is excellent!!

  4. PF Candle Co: I’ve bought their incense sticks before (I went through an incense period last year) and finally decided to order their candles. I love their Sunset Collection, in no small part because of the super chic packaging.

  5. 228 Grant Street: This is another Black-owned candle company that’s new to me. I haven’t received my order yet, but I’m super excited to try the Sweet Orange x Moroccan Spice and Meyer Lemon x Lavender scents!!

Keep scrolling for a few brands I want to try!

I have a few additional candle brands I want to try over the coming months: Boy Smells, Predominantly Black (Black-owned business), La Botica (Black-owned business), Harlem Candle Co (Black-owned business), and Moodcast Fragrance Co.
